THE FRENCH CONSULATE IN JOHANNESBURG INFORMS THAT TEMPORARY PASSPORTS ARE NOT VALID ANYMORE TO GO TO FRANCE .

Since march 25th 2001 the short stay visas issued by the Consulate General of France in Johannesburg and the Consulate of France in Cape Town are Schengen visas, valid for fifteen countries : Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

Where to apply for a Schengen visa ?
If you intend to visit only one Schengen country, you must apply at the Embassy or Consulate of that country.
If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country that is your main destination/ longest stay.
If you intend to visit several countries but do not have a main destination, you should apply for a visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of your first point of entry.

Which French Consulate in South Africa should you apply to?

• If you live in GAUTENG, FREE-STATE, KWAZULU-NATAL, MPUMALANGA, NORTHERN PROVINCE, or NORTH-WEST, you have to go to the Consulate General of France in Johannesburg :
