Introduction

Following the May 2003 selection of police stories, the French Embassy in South Africa is bringing Cinema Nouveau audiences a selection of movies by 2 majors French directors : Jean-Paul Rappeneau and Alain Corneau.

The proposed 7 titles offer a unique chance to enter the world of the 2 directors through their vision of adventure, drama and romance. Both have explored different genres from the acclaimed adaptation of "Cyrano" to the successful "film noir" "Le Cousin". This presentation is also a chance to experience the filmography of some great names such as Yves Montand, Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Adjiani or Catherine Deneuve. More than a formal promotion, this is an opportunity to enjoy this "cine-club" event "where love for cinema and curiosity should be satisfied...

Story :

Martin comes to Caracas to sell the vegetables that he grows on the desert island to which he has withdrawn to escape the stress of everyday life. Nelly is enraged after breaking up with her fiancé Vittori. She is so insistent that the reluctant Martin is forced to offer her accomodation on his island. Soon they become friends and lovers.

Story :

Victor wants to liquidate the family property so that he can build a casino on the shores of Lake Léman. His daughter Pauline does not agree, which leads to a big fight between the two. They get to know each other better and in the end they are reconciled with Pauline agreeing to manage the casino when Victor leaves.

Story :

Cyrano de Bergerac, a fine swordsman and poet but cursed with a long nose, is secretly in love with his cousin, Roxane, to whom he does not dare declaring his feelings. Story :

After his wife's death Monsieur Sainte-Colombe takes refuge in music. Story :

In a world where the frontiers between good and evil have disappeared, Nounours a "cousin" who is an informer but equally suspected of dealing in drugs help Gérard, a policeman, arrest bandits.
